Volvo’s award-winning XC90 continues into 2009 with added safety, comfort, and convenience features. The 2009 model’s smooth drive, ample cargo space, and proven durability make it a strong candidate for fleet executives seeking a functional luxury sport/utility vehicle.

With standard “Geartronic” automatic transmission, roll stability control (RSC), dynamic stability and traction control (DSTC), side-impact protection system (SIPS) with side airbags, and inflatable curtains for all three rows, the addition of the R-Design models provides a more refined and sporty look and several enhancements.

Enhancing the Original

With five-star ratings in almost all National Highway Traffic Safety Administration crash tests, the R-Design offers a choice between 3.2L six-cylinder and 4.4L V-8 (for those needing more power), larger wheels and tires, tuned suspension and steering, third-row seats with leather seating surfaces, and third-row air-conditioning with separate control.

Cargo-carrying capacity is enhanced by a flexible seating arrangement that includes a third-row flat-fold mechanism and a sliding second row. The XC90 offers 43.3 cubic feet in the seven-passenger model (with the third seat folded), and expands to 85.1 cubic feet with both rows folded. All models have a fuel tank capacity of 21.1 gallons and an EPA-estimated 14 city/20 highway mpg.

Additional convenience and technology packages are also available. A new convenience package features Volvo’s blind spot information system (BLIS), power retractable rearview mirrors, rear park assist, interior air quality system, and the enhanced Volvo navigation system II with remote control and real-time traffic.

The technology package, also offered on all models, comprises dual Xenon active bending headlights with automatic level control, Sirius satellite radio, and Dynaudio premium sound system with rear seat headphone jacks and audio controls. This system includes a six-CD changer, auxiliary input, MP3 capability, Dolby Pro-Logic II Surround Sound, 650-watt amplifier, and 12 Dynaudio speakers.

Adding Extra for the Exec

Offered exclusively on the XC90 V-8, the executive package brings an even higher level of luxury and exclusivity. Among the list of amenities are executive soft leather seating surfaces, door panels and center console cover, executive classic wood inlays and steering wheel, executive floor and cargo mats, heated front and rear seats, plus ventilated/massage functions for the front seats.

Do You Know What Your Drivers Are Really Doing?

By Mike Antich
Do you really know who is driving your company-provided vehicles? Often the "at-work" persona of an employee is not the true indicator of their behavior when no one is watching. Recently, someone forwarded me a link to a chat room for pharmaceutical reps. I did a search of posts that included the phrase "company car" and, in short order, I was shocked at some of the comments written about their use of company cars and how drivers play "the system" to their advantage.
