International Conference on Road Safety at Work in February

WASHINGTON – The U.S. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and partners — including the World Health Organization, Pan American Health Organization, International Labour Organization, U.S. Department of State, and National Safety Council — will host the first International Conference on Road Safety at Work Feb. 16-18 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C. 

The event will provide a forum for business, labor, policymakers, and the research community to discuss strategies to prevent road traffic crashes in the workplace. This international conference is dedicated to occupational safety, and all participants will receive a best-practice discussion paper before the event. Conference sessions will include:

  • Welcomes and context setting presentations by NIOSH and partners.
  • Case study of global best practice from Shell.
  • The status of occupational road safety globally: capsule presentation of conference white paper.
  • Panel discussions on developed economies and emerging-market perspectives.
  • Global industry perspective presented by Nestlé and policy perspective presented by Swedish Road Administration.
  • Breakout sessions covering policy; management and interventions; emerging markets; legal perspectives; driver-based interventions; protecting drivers in emerging markets; labor relations and union perspectives; crash analysis and benchmarking; regional focus on Russia, Southeast Asia, India, China Africa, and Latin America; corporate social responsibility; technology-based interventions; using research to promote policy change; and driver management.
  • Plenary session to summarize findings and next steps.
