DETROIT – Audi debuted the latest versions of its new 2013-MY Audi A8 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, stating it plans to bring the A8 3.0T to the U.S. Audi of America also said it plans to introduce two V-6 models in the A-8 line equipped with the 3.0L V-6 TDI clean diesel engine.

The automaker said standard and optional equipment availability will be similar to the Audi A8 4.2, including the normal and long wheelbase offerings. The A8 3.0T will also include standard quattro all-wheel drive.

Audi said start/stop technology will be standard on both models, and that the A8 will feature the first application of this fuel-saving technology in the U.S. market for the Audi brand. The 3.0T can produce 333 horsepower and 325 lb.-ft. of torque.

The A8 features a lightweight aluminum body that uses the automaker’s Audi Space Frame technology for improved performance, efficiency, and ride comfort. The A8’s body is roughly 40% lighter than a comparable steel body, according to Audi, and features high rigidity and vibration suppression. The vehicle comes with LED daytime running lights and optional full-LED headlamps.

The A8 also features a number of safety technologies, including Audi pre-sense, which detects imminent collisions and initiates safety measures (tightening seat belts, closing windows and the sunroof, and applying additional braking power if needed). Pre-sense technology uses cameras and radar to monitor the area around the vehicle, displaying safety information on the instrument panel.

Audi’s connect infotainment system provides factory vehicle integration of WiFi, turning the car into a mobile hotspot. The system allows up to eight WiFi-capable devices to connect to the Internet. The vehicle also features Google Voice Local Search, which allows occupants to find destinations via voice. In addition users can use the MMI touch system, which features a touchpad interface, or the MMI system dial to find destinations. Additional features include real-time information, such as weather, fuel price updates, and streaming news feeds, which users can view when the vehicle is stopped.
