Re: Is all fuel created equally?
KO,
All gas comes from the same refineries and is formulated to the same standards by law, regardless of brands. Brands do add detergents, which may result in a longer-lasting engine, though there is no correlation with better fuel economy.
Blends change with the season, and may result in slightly lower or higher miles per gallon, but that’s for all brands.
A joint study by ABC News and the Maryland State Comptroller's Office examined the difference between name brand and generic gas. Their research found that regular and discount gas are basically similar, and the amount of added detergent was generally minor.
