Whitacre to Step Down as GM CEO in September

Whitacre took on the role of CEO for General Motors in December 2009. He will step down from the position Sept. 1.

DETROIT - Ed Whitacre, Jr. will step down as General Motors CEO Sept. 1, and as chairman of the board by the end of the year. Replacing him is Dan Akerson, who has served on the GM board of directors since July 2009.
