TRALA Elects McMahon as '08-'09 Chairman

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Southeastern Leasing and Rental President Mike McMahon of Charlotte, N.C., was unanimously chosen by the members of the Truck Renting and Leasing Association (TRALA) as its 2008-2009 Chairman at the association's 30th annual meeting held recently in Phoenix.

VA Supreme Court Nullifies New Regional Taxes

TRALA Pushes Tax Checks in New Mexico

ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Truck Renting and Leasing Association (TRALA) is asking the New Mexico Motor Transportation Division (MTD) to switch to license plate recognition technology for purposes of checking vehicles’ compliance with the state’s weight-distance tax.

NY Appeals Court Upholds Vicarious Liability Repeal

NEW YORK – In a major victory for the vehicle renting and leasing industry, a New York appellate court has upheld the Graves Amendment as constitutional and valid. Today’s decision re-affirms the federal law prohibiting states from imposing vicarious liability on owners of rented and leased vehicles.

The Credit Crisis Impact on Fleet? Look to 1973 for Clues

Fuel prices hit record highs. The cost of financing a fleet doubles. Used-vehicle values plummet. Dealers are unable to sell the vehicles they have in inventory. Geopolitically, the U.S. is embroiled in war and the macro-economy teeters on recession. If you think I'm talking about 2008, think again. The year was 1973.

Used-Vehicle Market Nosedives in October: More Downward Movement Anticipated

October was an extremely difficult month to remarket vehicles in the wholesale market as resale prices took a precipitous drop. Wholesale pricing, based on mixed mileage and seasonally adjusted, declined a record 6 percent in October. The lack of credit to both dealers and retail buyers has been the key catalyst contributing to the downturn in the wholesale market. The market forecast is gloomy until the credit gridlock is resolved.
