ARTICLE TOOLS        | E-MailPrint

MUNICH, GERMANY – BMW plans to introduce two new diesel models in the United States: the X5 xDrive35d SUV and the 335d sedan. Both will be powered by a turbocharged 3.0L inline six-cylinder diesel engine rated at 265 hp and 425 lb-ft of torque, according to www.trailerlife.com.The new diesels feature variable twin turbos with a torque peak at a low 1,750 rpm, which is excellent for towing. They get about 25 percent better mileage than similar-size gas engines. A urea aftertreatment system, similar to Mercedes’ Bluetec, will allow them to meet strict emission regulations and be sold in all 50 states later in 2008.

More and more fleet managers are reporting an uptick in preventable accidents. In addition, fleet managers are feeling pressure from other corporate departments to increase fleet driver safety.
