Massachusetts Bill Seeks Cell Phone Restrictions
BOSTON – The Massachusetts House passed a bill on Jan. 23 that would impose fines for adult drivers who make cell phone calls without a hands-free device. The bill would also ban drivers under 18 from making cell phone calls, texting, or e-mailing, the Boston Globe reported.
However, the Senate has not yet considered the legislation. Already, a number of state senators have argued that law enforcement officers already have discretion to ticket distracted drivers.
Five states and the District of Columbia have passed hands-free requirements for cell phone usage behind the wheel.
