Wal-Mart Adds LNG-Fueled Trucks to Calif. Fleet
BENTONVILLE, Ark. --- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has joined forces with Westport Innovations to introduce four liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled Peterbilt 386 trucks into the Wal-Mart truck fleet based at the company distribution center in Apple Valley, Calif.
According to Progressive Grocer, an industry publication, the project will receive partial funding from the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District's (MDAQMD) Mobile Source Emission Reductions Competitive Bidding Program.
"Our experience shows that by using natural gas, Westport's LNG fuel system can help Wal-Mart reduce their fleet vehicles' greenhouse gas emissions by some 20 percent and NOx emissions by between 30 percent and 50 percent over their diesel equivalents," said Michael Gallagher, president and COO of Westport.
