California Prices at Pump Hit Record Highs
SAN JOSE, Calif. --- Average gasoline prices reached record highs for the state of California and in the South Bay on Tuesday, according to AAA surveys.
The statewide average for a gallon of self-serve unleaded gasoline rose to $3.499, compared to the single-day mark of $3.490 set last May, AAA said.
In the San Jose area, the average was $3.591, compared to last May's record of $3.503.
The higher gasoline prices are coming as oil prices continue to climb upward on a weakened U.S. dollar.
Oil prices on Monday soared $1.93 to $103.77 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, with an intra-day record of $103.95, the AP reported.
