Biofuel Plant Planned for Oliver Township, Mich.

OLIVER TOWNSHIP, Mich. --- Huron Biofuels confirmed this month that the business is planning to build a facility that will produce 20 million gallons of biodiesel per year using 13 million bushels of soybeans.

"We are currently finalizing the acquisition of 56 acres of land in Oliver Township," Bill Moran, CEO of Huron Biofuels, told the Huron Daily Tribune.

Plant construction is planned for spring 2009, with initial operation in early 2010, Moran added.

Though Michigan has five ethanol plants, the state doesn't have much biodiesel production, Moran said. He estimated that the plant would contribute up to $100 million to the local economy.
