GM OnStar Seeks to Expand Use to Other Automakers

February 06, 2009

DETROITGeneral Motors is currently considering the prospect of sharing the OnStar service with other automakers in the U.S., Canada, and even globally, confirmed an OnStar spokesperson.

OnStar said it has offered services on vehicles made by automakers other than GM since 2001. "We are currently actively speaking with other automakers to leverage the technology and processes we have refined over the last 13 years to offer services to their customers," according to the spokesperson.

Previously, GM had terminated its third-party services with other carmakers as a result of a switch-over from analog to digital equipment in the OnStar system.
