The Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS) held its annual Benchmark Conference in Charlottesville, Va., on Oct. 11-12, 2017. The conference attracted a record 193 attendees.

Joe McKillips, the NETS executive director, gave a state-of-the-association presentation. McKillips cited NETS’ growing influence in the fleet safety arena with its authoritative benchmarking data, record membership growth, and back-to-back record attendance at its last two annual conferences.

NETS is an employer-led public/private partnership dedicated to improving the safety and health of employees, their families, and members of the communities in which they live and work by preventing traffic crashes that occur both on- and off-the-job. NETS was founded in 1989 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as an employer-led road safety organization.

In 2017, one of the association’s key accomplishments was the addition of its first utlity fleet—Consolidated Edison—to its board of directors.

In 2018, McKillips said one of the initiatives undertaken by NETS will be to explore the feasibility of offering a global fleet safety.
