Ruthmary "Suzy" Smith Westfall, co-founder of Adrian Steel, passed away Sept. 5 at her home. She was 90.

Westfall was born May 20, 1920, in Wayne, Mich., to Harley Emmons and Harriet Mary (Smalley) Smith. She attended the University of Michigan from 1938 to 1942, and belonged to the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was also a member of the DAR, Lucy Wolcott Barnum Chapter for more than 50 years, where she served as registrar. 

On Feb. 7, 1942, she married Robert Barton Westfall in Ypsilanti. In 1953, the couple founded Adrian Steel. He preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 1980.

Westfall is survived by three children, one brother, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were held Sept. 13 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Adrian, Mich. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lenawee or the Lenawee Humane Society.
