ARLINGTON, VA – The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has given the model-year 2011 Saab 9-4X, a new midsize luxury SUV, the Top Safety Pick award.

The 9-4X drew the highest rating of "good" in IIHS front, side and rollover crash evaluations based on good performances for its structural twin, the Cadillac SRX. A separate rear-impact test was conducted for the seats/head restraints in the 9-4X, resulting in a "good" rating for protection in rear-end crashes.

Only three weeks ago, the Saab 9-5 Sedan received the same honor.

"To achieve two Top Safety Picks in three weeks is, of course, extremely gratifying," said Per Lenhoff, head of safety development at Saab Automobile.

Top Safety Pick recognizes the vehicles that earn the highest ratings in all four IIHS safety evaluations and have electronic stability control. ESC is standard on the 9-4X.
