Mercedes-Benz U.S.A., LLC (MBUSA) is recalling approximately 57 2018 AMG GT, AMG GT C, GLC43 AMG 4Matic, GLC300, GLC300 4Matic and GLC350e 4Matic vehicles because the housing for the driver side air bag inflator may have been made with defective steel. With this scenario, if an air bag deploys, the damaged steel could potentially cause improper inflation of the air bag and possible inflator rupture.

In the event of an accident where the driver side air bag deploys, an improperly inflated air bag and/or an inflator rupture with sharp metal fragments could possibly result in serious injury or death to the driver or other occupants.

To fix the problem, MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front driver air bag module, at no cost to vehicle owners.

The recall beings May 29. Owners can reach MBUSA customer service at (800) 367-6372.
