Volkswagon Group of America, Inc. is recalling an estimated 342,867 Audi sedans and SUVs for electric coolant pump problems.

The recall includes 2013 to 2017 Audi A5 Cabriolet, A5 sedan and Audi Q5 compact SUVs, 2012 to 2015 Audi A6 sedans and 2013 to 2016 Audi A4 sedan and A4 allroad vehicles.

Equipped with 2.0I Turbo FSI engines, these vehicles include an electric coolant pump that can either become blocked with debris from the cooling system causing it to overheat or can short-circuit due to moisture within the pump. Both scenarios can increase the risk of a fire.

To fix the problem, Audi will notify owners beginning June 11, and dealers will replace the pumps, at not cost to owners. Presently, parts are not available. However, Audi will mail a second notice to owners once parts are available.

Vehicle owners can reach Audi customer service at (800) 253-2834. Audi's number for this recall is 19N3/19N4. Owners should be aware that this recall is in addition to the coolant pump software update applied as a remedy under recall 17V002.
