ICELAND – Mitsubishi Motors has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the government of Iceland that will allow the company to begin fleet-testing its i MiEV electric concept car with Iceland's Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Tourism.

The president of Iceland, Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, test-drove the first i MiEV after the signing of the memorandum. Iceland has been working since 1980 to convert completely to sustainable energy. Nearly 100 percent of the country's electrical power already comes from geothermal and hydroelectric sources.

The i MiEV, based on the i microcar, has already been fleet-testing in Japan with seven electric-power companies. The all-electric microcar is finalizing development for a launch some time in 2009.
