WOODCLIFF LAKE, NJ - The 2011 BMW 740i will start at $70,150, with the longer 740Li offered at $74,550. Both prices do not include an $875 destination charge, according to USA Today.

The twin-turbo V-6 will produce 315 horsepower under BMW's EfficientDynamics philosophy.

The German automaker claims that its modern engines can "equal or exceed" the outputs of older, larger engines with more cylinders. It will remain to be seen if luxury shoppers will buy into this less-is-more notion or if they'll simply opt for a V-8 in a Jaguar XJ, Audi A8 or Mercedes-Benz S-Class (or bump up to $80,000 for the BMW 750).
