The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) posted a notice on its website that BMW is recalling a total of 30,265 MY-2007-2010 X5 vehicles manufactured between September 12, 2006, through March 18, 2010 that are equipped with an 8-cylinder engine.

The recall is for an issue related to the vehicle’s brake vacuum pump. According to the company, the pump can leak lubricating oil into the hose, which could result in a loss of power assist braking.

BMW said the recall will begin this month (February), that it will notify owners, and that its dealers will replace the brake vacuum line with one that contains a check valve, free of charge. Owners can call BMW at 1-800-525-7417 or email BMW at [email protected].
