General Motors has shipped the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 sports cars from its Bowling Green assembly plant to dealers who should receive the vehicle later this week.

The Corvette has been redesigned for the 2015 model year with a new LT4 6.2-liter V-8 engine that produces 650 hp and 650 lb.-ft. of torque. The vehicle is the one of the most powerful production cars offered in the U.S.

GM has also added direct injection, Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) and continuously variable valve timing, along with a new, more efficient supercharger. The 2015 Corvette Z06 starts at $78,995 including destination, while the convertible model will start at $83,995.

The vehicle gets an EPA-rated 29 mpg highway with an eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission.
