BMW's seventh-generation 5 Series will retail for at least $52,195 when it goes in sale on Feb. 11, after debuting at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, BMW has announced.

While the base model 530i powered by a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine will retail for $52,195, the 540i powered by a 3.0L turbo six-cylinder engine will retail for $57,445. Adding BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive to either model adds $2,300.

The 2017 5 Series sheds 137 pounds of weight by incorporating aluminum, magnesium and high-strength steel. The vehicle improves performance with the new engines and adds standard equipment such as adaptive LED headlights, sport seats, and 18-inch wheels.

It also adds iDrive 6.0 with a dynamic digital instrument cluster, available gesture control, the latest head-up display, Remote 3D View, and improved voice control.
