Lexus will debut its fifth-generation LS flagship sedan at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January, Lexus has announced.

With the announcement, Lexus returns to the scene of where they announced the debut of the LS into the North American market in 1989. At the time, the vehicle coincided with the birth of the Lexus brand.

The new LS will be built on the company's new global architecture (GA-L) as a rear-wheel drive sedan that's an extended version of the one used to underpin the LC 500. The sedan will offer "a more dynamic experience on the road," as well as a "spacious cabin, luxurious appointments and visionary technology," according to a release.
