Lexus will offer a hybrid variant of its flagship LS sedan known as the LS 500h with the 2018 model year, Lexus announced at the Geneva auto show.

The 2018 LS 500h uses Lexus' new Multi Stage Hybrid System powertrain that pairs a 3.5L V-6 Dual VVT-i V6 gasoline engine with two electric motors. Total system output is rated at 354 hp. A lithium-ion battery will offer higher power density and reduce the sedan's weight over a comparable non-lithium ion pack.

In January, Lexus showed its fifth-generation 2018 LS flagship sedan at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The LS 500 is longer and lower than its predecessor with a 123-inch wheelbase. Lexus offered the 2017 LS460 (116.9-inch wheelbase) and longer-wheelbase LS460 L (121.7 inches).
