Audi is adding a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder TSFI engine to its 2017 Q7 luxury SUV that replaces the previous generation 3.0T V-6, Audi has announced.

The new engine improves off-the-line performance and fuel efficiency over the outgoing engine with a half-second improvement from 0-60 mph and a 22% improvement in EPA-estimated fuel efficiency. The move reduces the vehicle's curb weight by 500 pounds.

The engine improves efficiency over the outgoing V-6 and reduces power output. It will make 252 hp and 273 lb.-ft. of torque, compared with the 280 hp rating of the outgoing supercharged engine.

The engine is paired with an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive. The 2017 Q7 should achieve 22 mpg in combined driving cycles.

The 2017 Q7 2.0T Quattro will retail for $49,950 for the Premium trim and $53,950 for the Premium Plus trim.
