Porsche will bring a third plug-in hybrid vehicle to the U.S. later this year when it introduces the 2015 Cayenne S E-Hybrid luxury SUV, the German automaker announced on July 23.

Porsche is touting the vehicle as an immense improvement from the previous generation Cayenne S Hybrid. By adding a lithium-ion traction battery with a 10.8-kilowatt capacity, the performance has been significantly improved, especially in all-electric mode. The electric motor's power has been doubled to 95 horsepower from 47, which provides an all-electric top speed of 78 mph.

The electric motor is paired with a 3.0L supercharged V-6. The vehicle can now reach 0-62 mph in 5.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 151 mph.

Porsche also offers the Panamera S E-Hybrid plug-in hybrid and 918 Spyder hybrid supercar.
