John MacDonald, who ran Chrysler's fleet unit for several years in the 1990s, died at his home on Walloon Lake, Mich., earlier this month. He was 72.

MacDonald worked for Chrysler for 30 years in sales and marketing roles starting in July of 1971. He started in the Chicago zone, then served as assistant sales manager in the Omaha and Detroit zones. In 1980, he was named the Denver zone manager and then the Chicago zone manager.

In 1983, he was named regional manager of the South region and in 1985 became regional manager for the Central region. In September of 1987, he was appointed general manager of Dodge truck marketing. In October of 1988, he was named general sales manager for Chrysler Corp.

In 1991, MacDonald moved to Chrysler Fleet Operations, where he served as assistant general manager. On Jan. 1, 1993, he was named general manager.

MacDonald also maintained a residence in Naples, Fla. He is survived by his wife Lisa James, son Brian MacDonald, daughter Kelly MacDonald, and several grandchildren, reports the Naples Daily News.
