With congestion far less than it was pre-COVID-19, drivers may be more inclined to participate in risky driving behaviors, such as increased speeds, as they traverse nearly empty roads and highways. In addition, stress caused by increased delivery or service demands coupled with the worries about theirs and their loved ones’ health and safety could be a contributing factor.
Using this data to identify drivers who may need coaching will help to keep them and others on the road safer and more productive.
If you’re noticing similar problems fleetwide, it may be worthwhile to review these safety issues with all of your drivers.
Remember—data is data, and it is an effective tool to help keep drivers safe and productive. But it is also important to note that safety isn’t a one-and-done activity, it requires ongoing monitoring, coaching and training, as well as revisiting and revising policies.
It is also important to check the connection and ensure proper installation of any aftermarket telematics devices if you are seeing a large spike in events and have consulted with the drivers.
