Audi's A3 Sportback e-tron plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) will have a starting price of $38,825 when it arrives at U.S. dealerships in October, the automaker announced.

The PHEV will be available in three trim levels: $38,825 for the base-level Premium, $42,925 for the Premium Plus, and $47,725 for the Prestige (with destination charges included). The vehicle is expected to qualify for a federal tax credit of $4,168, and buyers in some states may qualify for additional incentives, Audi added.

The A3 Sportback has been available for sale in Europe since late 2014, and it was originally scheduled to arrive at U.S. dealers in early 2015.

The vehicle has a 1.4-liter TFSI engine that produces 204 hp and 258 lb-ft. of torque, and it also includes an 8.8-kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

U.S. EPA fuel economy ratings have not been announced.
