Fleet FAQ? Telematics & Fleet Tracking

Q. We use our telematics solution to monitor our fueling activites for TCO and budgeting for our gasoline vehicles. Can we do the same with our EVs?

A. You certainly can use a telematics solution to monitor the charging activities of your EVs much in the same way you do when you’re fueling a gasoline-powered vehicle.

For example, the Geotab platform reports the kWh charged for each EV as a record from a charging session, along with the charging location, length of the charging session, the kw rate of the charging session, the starting and ending charge and what time it took place, along with odometer readings to get insights into driving behavior and vehicle utilization.

If you already use fuel reports from your Geotab platform or from another telematics or fuel card provider, you are aware of the value of knowing the costs associated with filling up.

You’ll receive this same cost accounting for your EVs. And, because of this you’ll know—as with your gasoline and diesel vehicles—the total cost of ownership (TCO) of these vehicles.
