Fleet FAQ? Fuel Management

Q. Why should I incorporate telematics into my government fleet operations?

A.Public and government fleets perform essential, mission-critical functions for cities and states. As stewards of the public trust and resources, government agencies need powerful tools to increase security, streamline processes, save funds, and help fleets be safer and more productive. They can’t fail to plow the roads when it snows, for example, or wait around to pick up the garbage. Their fleets need to move, and, to the extent they can, they need to move predictably.

Adding telematics to your fleet card lets you monitor operations almost second-by-second, to spot performance outliers and inefficiencies that often go unseen from just a fuel file or activity report. So, this helps government fleet managers get more out of their vehicles, eliminate fueling waste and fraud, reduce unnecessary wear and tear, decrease response times, and improve public safety and confidence in their agencies.

Once you install a telematics device, you begin receiving a completely different data set than you get with a fuel card. Telematics is a great example of how data allows you to look into your fleet’s operations, spot anomalies and identify cost-saving opportunities. Telematics is a lot more than just “track and trace” these days and, especially with regard to safety, is imperative to running a better fleet, particularly a public one.
