ROCHESTER, WI – Average annual insurance premiums vary from nearly $5,900 in Detroit, to approximately $900 in Roanoke, Va., according to a recent analysis by Runzheimer International. At $5,894 per year for insurance coverage for a mid-size sedan driven within a 50-mile radius of the city, Detroit-area drivers pay almost $5,000 more a year than drivers in Roanoke, who pay only $912. These rates are based on both male and female drivers over a minimum age with clean driving records and include comprehensive, collision, bodily injury, property damage, and uninsured motorist coverage. Philadelphia and Newark also represent expensive locations for insurance coverage at $4,440 and $3,977, respectively. New York City at $3,430 and Los Angeles at $3,303, round out the five most expensive cities in the United States. The five least expensive U.S. cities for insurance include Roanoke at $912; Chattanooga, Tenn., at $980; Nashville, Tenn., at $1,040; Green Bay, Wis., at $1,042; and Raleigh, N.C., at $1,057.
