BOSTON --- Boston's notorious highway project dubbed Big Dig is finally finished, and the final price tag is $14.8 billion. The project, whose price was originally set at $2.6 billion, has been plagued with problems --- tunnel leaks, traffic jams and last year's death of a motorist crushed by falling concrete panels, AP reported. The July 2006 tunnel ceiling collapse spurred both civil and criminal cases following the death of Milena Del Valle. Accident investigators blamed the collapse on an epoxy manufacturer. Earlier this week, the victim's family announced a $6 million settlement with that company, Powers Fasteners. However, that company still faces a manslaughter indictment, AP reported, and lawsuits are still pending against other Big Dig contractors.
