This engine can produce more than 405 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,400 to 5,300 rpm, and can accelerate the S6 from 0 to 62 mph in 4.8 seconds. This new engine is more fuel-efficient than the previous V-10, accoring to Audi, cutting fuel use by 25 percent. This new engine improves fuel economy to 24.25 mpg for the S6. The 4.0 TFSI features start-stop systems and a cylinder-on-demand cylinder management system.

The transmission is a seven-speed S tronic. The S6 comes with the Audi drive select driving dynamics system as standard, which a driver can adjust in five stages. It modifies the shift points of the S tronic, gas pedal characteristics, the vehicle's adaptive air suspension, and the electromechanical steering system’s servo boost.
