“At the end of the day, there’s not a lot of argument to be made against using biodiesel.”

That’s what Jeff Corbin, Director of Maintenance and Fleet Operations at Mahoney Environmental, has to say about the renewable fuel. So what are his arguments for using biodiesel in a 160-truck fleet that does business nationwide? There are three big ones:

  1. Performance — Biodiesel’s lubricity has reduced wear on engine components and its cleaner burn has helped after-treatment systems.
  2. Price — The company usually pays less for biodiesel than it does for petroleum diesel.
  3. Emissions — The fleet’s greenhouse gas and engine head emissions are lower with biodiesel.
