HARRISBURG, Pa. --- Gov. Ed Rendell's administration has earmarked $3 million in the state budget for a rebate program rewarding buyers of hybrid vehicles, according to the Patriot News. The $3 million figure is double the amount allocated in the last fiscal year. After providing proof of purchase, buyers of new hybrid vehicles can qualify for $500 rebates from the state. The state's Department of Environmental Protection suspended the hybrid rebate program March 9 after the $1.5 million allocated for fiscal year 2006 was depleted. The new program will be up and running in a week or two, a department spokesman told the newspaper.
